    declared

    Hi,

could you please tell me what "declared" means in the following sentence:

The International Automobile Federation declared in conformity with the French law of 1. July 1901 ....

    Does it mean "established"?

    Thanks a lot!

But the sentence says that the federation was declared in conformity with the mentioned law AND NOT that the federation declares something (I am sorry I didnīt finish the sentence)

    Re: declared

Perhaps you could give us the complete sentence?

To declare something in this context as you give it would be that the organization is stating publicly that it is complying with the law concerned

    Re: declared

It is a description of contracting parties:

The contract is made on ..... between:

The International Automobile Federation declared in conformity with the French law of 1st July 1901 and enjoying consultative status at the Council of Europe, having its office at ..........., represented by ....

    and

    the second contracting party

Looking at this, I suggest there should be a comma after Federation - the IAF was declared as such in conformity with the French law.
