    I don't think

    Hi everybody,
    Can anybody please tell me if both these sentences 1-are correct (if not, why) and 2- mean the same -(if different, in what ways)?.

    - I don't think you are right

    - I think you are not right.

    IMHO grammatically the second option is better than the first but in common usage (in North America) you will hear the first much more often.

    I don't think you are right (common)
    I think you are not right (better construction)

    and so it depends... If you want to be correct use the second and if you want to sound more like a native use the first.
