    Question odd Wednesday

    Hello,

I've been looking up a meaning of "odd Wednesday" in my dictionaries and
    through the internet.
I can see lots of people write about it, but can't find a site that explain
    the meaning.

Is it a name of show in a theatre or on TV?
Where does the word come from?
What is so odd about Wednesday anyway?

    Thank you,
    Tara

What is the context for this phrase? It could mean all sorts of things.

    Question Re: odd Wednesday

    Hello Anglika,

    I read some articles which include sentences like;
"Lisa Sullivan didn't think it odd Wednesday when an HIV-positive patient walked into her clinic at University Hospital with diabetes."
    or
"Not only was it NOT an odd Wednesday (it was a Saturday), but also the group invited family and friends to come along, for both the movie and the discussion following. "

And then, I found there was a show(or a play?) called "Odd Wednesday"
    at The American Story Theater.

So, I thought it might have been some particular reason to call "odd"
    about Wednesday.
But then I found people call any day "odd" like "odd Monday" or "odd Sunday".

I wonder if it is just to emphasize a day when strange or unusual things
    happen.

    Thank you,Tara

    Re: odd Wednesday

    Hi Tara,

In the tradition of Wednesday's lately, this one is bringing strange surprises.

I'm having some odd physical symptoms. Slightly blurred vision that comes and goes in my good eye. (concerning since my left eye is lazy, and my brain basically doesn't recognize the visual input from it, so I rely on my right eye to be able to see.) Oddly stuffed, buzzing, static sensation in my right ear. And a few other things that I won't mention for the moment.

I'm not particularly worried. It's a Wednesday after all. Weird things that are connected to the spiritual realm in ways I don't understand happen on Wednesdays.

    Regards.

    V.

    Re: odd Wednesday

Notice that Wednesday is also the name of a member of the Addams family, who is well-known for their macabre appearance.
And take a look at this popular song.

Monday's child is fair of face day of face
Tuesday's child is full of grace.
Wednesday's child is full of woe.
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving.
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

There must be some cultural bad-attitude about Wednesday.

    Re: odd Wednesday

    Hi vil,

Yes, I read this one, too. It's weird, isn't it?
I mean, why is this guy so easily convinced like "It's Wednesday, after all."?

I wonder if this thought comes from religion or some old literature.

    Thanks for your attention.
    Tara

    Re: odd Wednesday

    Hello Englishlanguage,

I love the character that Christina Ricci played.

As you mentioned, I think the lyrics from the Nursery rhyme
gives bad image about Wednesday, too.

Actually, I was glad I was not a Wednesday's child
    when I first read it.

    Thank you,
    Tara
