    Smile translation into English

Hi dear experts, Could you please tell if the following two sentences sound OK in English:

    1. "Most of the papers in the book have been written especially for scientific conferences, but there are also some intended for the general public and published in magazines."

    2. "It is probably on account of my frame of mind that most of my scientific papers, as well as my general and publicistic ones have been a result of my personal studies of the real language in all its forms and styles.

    What does 'publicistic' mean, Snade?
