    Please tell me why we use "a" but not "the" in this sentence :I read untill breakfast time a novel I had borrowed from Marion.

    I think that, you must have borrowed from Marion lots of novel, then in that breakfast you read one of them.

    It could be that this is the first mention of the book; after that, we would move to the definite article because wh=e now know which book you are talking about.
