    Usage of 'shut'

Is the use of the verb 'shut' correct in the following:
I shut the alarm clock. Thanks.

    Re: Usage of 'shut'

Not quite, you could say "I shut off the alarm clock", but "I switched off" or "turned off" are also possible.

You would shut/close a door or window as examples.
