    Smile Highland

    Good (any time)!

I'm rather interested in the subj. How high can highland be? I know that Scottish Mountains are not so high. But if you ara not a Scotsman, can f.e. Tibet of Rocky Mountains be called "highland"? What is the lower|the higher altitude of a "highland"?

    Re: Highland

There are no specific measurements for this meaning. In Scotland the mountainous regions of the western side are referred to as the Highlands which distinguishes them from the Scottish Lowlands to the south.
There is no correlation with either the Himalayas of Tibet or the Rocky Mountains of North America.

In general "highlands" will be the regions that are elevated from the plains, but will not include true mountainous regions.

    Attention: Im not a teacher!

    Hi Alex Om,

Highland - named after the Scottish highlands.

    elevated (e.g., mountainous) land

    Synonym: upland

    upland (geology)

In geology, an upland is generally considered to be land that is along streams and at a higher elevation than the alluvial plain or stream terrace, which are considered to be lowlands
elevation = the height to which something is elevated above a point of reference such as the ground.

Upland is an area of land thats is over 500 meters above sea level
