I want to know if there is a rule to, when to use anti as pronounce as "tay" or as "ti".

    ex: multi-national, muti-tasking, multi-vitamins, etc.
    anti-terrosm, anti-bacteria, etc.

    Re: anti & multi?

Anti: used when something is opposed to a particular practice, party, policy, action. "Anti" is used as "Against."

Multi: means many, lots or multiple.

    Examples:

    1. This is an anti-virus software-- A software to protect your system against malicious software.

    2. He is very good at multi-tasking. He can do many things at once.

multi-national-- a company which does business in many countries.
muti-tasking-- Doing two or more jobs at a time.
multi-vitamins-- A dietary supplement that contains all or most of the vitamins.
anti-terrosm- Defensive measures used to reduce the vulnerability (of properties or individuals) to terrorist act i.e to safeguard against terrorists.
anti-bacteria--A substance that destroys bacteria or suppresses their growth.

    Question Re: anti & multi?

Hi shalstudent, thank you for all those information. Maybe my question is quite confusing as how those words confused me. Lols.

Seriously, what I want to know is if there is a rule or rules when the last two letters of the word anti & multi pronounce as tay and ti.

Ex. Multi-vitamins- Is it correct if I say it multay-vitamins? or it should be multi-vitamins.

    Thanks again.

Do you want to know the correct pronunciation of "multi"?
Words like multi, semi and anti are commonly pronounced as ti like in baby in both British and American English but in American English their pronunciation as tay as in tie, lie and die is more common.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards!

    Hi Dawood,

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I know how to pronounce those words.
So there is no such thing as rules, the pronunciation depends on what type of English (British or American) I’m going to use and both tay(tie) and ti (tea) pronunciation are acceptable and correct.
