    Which one is the correct one?

    they escaped further westwards, to not being forced to settle down as farmers.

    or

    they escaped further westwards, to not be forced to settle down as farmers.

    As you can probaly see the question (to me) is whether it should be: be or being.

    SO which one to pick!?

    I'm afraid neither is correct.

    Maybe you mean

    ... so as not to be forced to settle down as farmers.
