    result

    Dear teachers,

I find expressions of result difficult. Please read the following sentences:

    No.1
The boy fell off his bike and broke his leg.
Can I say 'The boy fell off his bike so he broke his leg'?

    No.2
It rained all day yesterday, so we got nothing done in the fields.
Can I say 'It rained all day yesterday and we got nothing done in the fields'?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

Can I say 'The boy fell off his bike so he broke his leg'? No, because this sentence makes it sound like breaking one's leg is an inevitable result of falling of a bike.

    No.2
It rained all day yesterday, so we got nothing done in the fields. This sentence is okay because all that rain is very likely to make working in the fields difficult or impossible.
Can I say 'It rained all day yesterday and we got nothing done in the fields'? yes

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Re: result

Thank you very much for your explanation.
Could you please explain if I can use 'so that' in both my original sentences?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

Sorry, I missed this question earlier.
"so that" is not suitable in your original sentences.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

    Re: result

Thank you very much for your explanation. Is it because 'so that' always suggests somebody does something for achieving certain result so that I can't use it?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you in advance.

He ran all the way to school so that he not be late.
