    Post still is today

    what is the subject of "is" in the following sentence. and I wonder why "still is before the be verb,.(Dictionary says that "still " comes after be verb and modal verb)

    Lansing became the capital and still is today..

    Lansing is the subject. It became the capital all those years ago and it (still)remains so today. The position of 'still' here, simply emphasizes the fact of Lansing's longevity as capital.
