I need help with this writing

Please could you proofread this text:

As Emir was watching everything what happened around in disbelief and indignation his feeling of powerlessness made him angry. He remembered his grandfather who told him stories about the First World War and brave soldiers who would rather die then abandon their positions and leave their brothers in arms in the lurch. They would wake up early in the morning before the sunrise and wash their bodies, performing ablutions only because they were more afraid of dying "unclean" then of death itself.
And now more then half a century later, his grandchild was a coward, afraid of someone who was a disgrace to this society.
He wondered how his grandfather would have reacted if he was still alive. Would he simply behave as thousands of others or would he stand up and fight for justice risking his own life?
