My favourite sports is tennis. You have plural noun "sports" but only one sport given.
My favourite animal is the panda.
    I like pandas.

    Hi there,

    Thanks a lot.

    Could I write like this?

My favourite sport is the tennis.
I don't understand 'the panda' is used here while 'tennis' without 'the'. How about 'My favourite food is sushi'. Could I say 'the sushi'?

    Thanks
    pete

If we go back to the usage of "Article", we do not use "the definite article" before the name of a game. (Not a teacher)
