    There vs It

    Hi teachers.

a)A:Something's wrong with the plane's engine!
b)B:What's happening? We're losing altitude fast.
c)A:It could be a major problem with the fuel system.
d)B:Quick, switch to the emergency fuel tank.

In the conversation above, the book says c) is not right because It must be
corrected to "There could be a major problem with the fuel system."
I think if It in c) is referring to Something in a), it can be right too.
Am i wrong? Please give me your opinions.

    Regards!

    Hello and you're right, Grinkl.

I think that the book's author(s) are being a little too strict in their interpretation of how we use existential 'there'. If we were to follow their thinking we'd have to add a 'there' to the first sentence, "There's something wrong with the plane's engine".
