    I have wanted to ask it since the first time I read it on the forum, so

    Since you didn't specifically address any particular problem you could have a look there
    Maybe this will do for starters

    I wouldn't want to bore you to tears with all the details if all you wanted was just a a survey.

    Reported speech is when you say what someone else said.

    John said, "I'm hungry." -- This is direct speech.

    John said that he was hungry. -- This is reported speech.

    It's common for the verb to shift back in tense (I am -- he was) when you write reported speech.

    No, you wouldn't have bored me to tears, more likely that my head would have spun more violently than the old dryer and I'd had have to ask for a bottle of Tylonyl! I'm glad you didn't take the route of "detail" teaching--what I call it--I'm more of a general learning (what I call it) kind of person. Thanks for the effort nevertheless.
