    Using the verb "to consider"

    Hey there,

Can anyone explain how to use the verb "to consider"? With some real examples in the sentence.

    Thank you in advance!

    I consider this question carefully.

Did you consider what it might mean?

As a matter of interest, have you looked the word up in a dictionary? And if so, what do you understand it to mean?

Re: Using the verb "to consider"

First of, thank you very much for your quick reply!
Yes, I did, indeed, look up from the dictionary. I was wondering if it is correct to say either "Consider X to be Y", or "Consider X as Y"? I am totally lost, perhaps both of them are incorrect!

    Thanks again!

I suppose OALD can help, they provide us with schematic symbols.
    This is the link:
    Possible entries for

This is their schematic sympols for this case and their example.
[vn to inf] Hes generally considered to have the finest tenor voice in the country.

From this example you can judge that your example is correct.
Morover, from this dictionary you can understand that you can omit "to be" and use the scheme vn-n. This award is considered (to be) a great honour.

Good dictionary, my beloved. Use it and be happy.
