Cool narrow and soggy? on or in?

    Hi,

    Is the following sentence correct?

"It was about 3:30 AM. I was driving my van on a soggy narrow path in the usually dry state of New Mexico"

    Try:
It was about 3:30 AM. I was driving my van down a narrow, wet road in the usually dry state of New Mexico.

Thank you. Why isn't path appropriate? Not made for cars?

Yes, I think so. We walk down a path. We drive down a road. (English is a funny language.)
