Either is correct depending upon how they're used in a sentence.

I know him and (I know) his wife quite well. (him and his wife as object)
He and his wife know me quite well. (He and his wife as subject)

    Exclamation Re: him vs he

I am not a teacher. I am learnig English to write and speak English fluently. The point of clarification him vs he appears to me very simple. 'Him' is a objective pronoun while 'He' is a subjective prounoun. So the term 'him and his wife' can be used as object of a sentence. Example: We invited him and his wife to our party. The other term 'he and his wife' can be used as subject of a sentence. Example: He and his wife came to our party.
