    usually at night. e.g. It really gets cold here at night.

    and with a day name: on Friday night

    but also: on a winter's night and in the middle of the night

    Using in the night you can refer to the night that has just finished:

    Oh dear. I'm really tired. The baby woke me up twice in the night (= during the night).

    At night means by night:

    Bats don't sleep at night.
