    lenses

    Hi there,
    Any short form or slang term for astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia? How to read lenses prescription? For example, I have myopia (in our country, we use degree: 500 degree) and astigmatism (100 degree) and hyperopia (100 degree)

    Thanks
    pete

    Re: lenses

    Not sure about the last two terms, as I am not an optician. But I am shortsighted as well. We do not really use myopia in common parlance.

    Re: lenses

    (In AmE):
    Myopia = nearsighted
    Hyperopia = farsighted
    Astigmatism is just astigmatism.

    And here is how we read eyeglass prescriptions.
