Thumbs down can you help me understand the puzzling words?

In the news, I always hear these two pairs of words: reporter & journalist; garbage & rubbish. I guess there must be some differences between each pair, otherwise, they shouldn't be used at the same time. Please help me with these words. Thanks.

Re: can you help me understand the puzzling words?

A reporter is a type of journalist. He researches and presents information.
The gathering of information is part of his job and called "reporting" as distinct from the production part (writing). Their reports can be either spoken or written. He works for different sorts of mass media (newspaper, TV, radio etc.)

Journalist in common language usage is a person who works for a newspaper. Their reports are written.

"Journalist" can include reporters, editors, columnists etc.

A journalist is quite dirrerent from a reporter.

The reporter simply tells the facts about the big game; the journalist finds out why the star player did not play as well. (more personal, investigative reporting)

Garbage and rubbish? Garbage is used in the US.

    Garbage & rubbish

It depends on the context. Maybe it acts as a hendiadys.
