Do I have to use an article before” French” in the following sentence?
Assume you are French and own a portfolio of US stocks.
Generally I have seen that people use articles before such adjectives.
For example, He is an Indian; she is an American.
1. Assume you are a French national and own a portfolio of US stocks.
2 Assume you are a Frenchman and own a portfolio of US stocks.
Your original sentence is an abbreviation of (1) where "French' is an adjective.
In 2, it is a noun, just as an Indian, an Englishman etc and so needs an article.
