Say the first Indiana Jones movie was opening at your local cinema, and a friend asks you who's in it. What would you say? I bet it's, "Harrison Ford plays Indiana." But the movie was probably filmed over a year ago.
When we look at and describe photographs, we are, as if, taken back in time (that's the whole point, remembering moments in our past through photographs), It's like saying, "Here I am back in 1981 with Jenny" because the 'I' in the photograph is not the me of today, but the me of 1981, in 1981.
I might look and say, "Here I am in 1981. I was much thinner then/had more hair then."
