    past tense or ing-form

    Hello everyone

I'd like to ask what form (past tense or ing-form) is correct in the following sentence:

Between 1991 and 2006, in XXX, there were changes in social ideology, influence of international and foreign organization increased, pluralization of society took place.

increased or increasing? took place or taking place?
