    More context is needed.

What is the context for your reference?

'Sound game' could refer to a fundamentally solid performance, as in 'The amateur teams played a sound game of soccer this morning.'

    Cheers,
    Amigo

    cmp,

I am guessing that John wanted his comments to be taken seriously...to seem like he was willing to go along with what Mary may have been suggesting. "John was game to try the activity that Mary wanted him to do."

    Does this help?

    Cheers,
    Amigo
