    meaning of phrase

At Advice Inc., a problem-embezzlement-was undoubtedly the topic of rich discussions for weeks, at least until the employee's cast came off. Any employee theft probably went away.

What's the meaning of black words? Please.

    Re: meaning of phrase

Without context, the sentence seems to refer to insurance fraud, so the "cast" is likely to be a plaster cast used as part of a fraudulent claim for compensation.

    Re: meaning of phrase

I.Is "plaster cast" a kind of substance or a title for sth? I checked the dictionary, the word "cast" can mean "character" or "behavior". So, is it possible "the employee's cast" means "the employee's bad behavior"?

II. What's the meaning of "come off"?

    Please

    Re: meaning of phrase

To clarify a bit: such a 'cast' starts as a liquid that 'sets'. A patient with a broken bone often has the relevant limb fixed in a cast, while the bone knits together again. So this sort of insurance fraud would involve a healthy person wearing such a cast. 'When the cast comes off' refers to the time after the supposed 'healing', when the doctor (probably criminal - he might well be an accomplice in the fraud) removes the cast.

But as Anglika says, this is all supposition. Context is crucial.
