Of all my friends _____ is so smart as Emily.
1. no one
3. not one
4. not any
5. any better suggestions
Pick the possible answer(s). Please explain your answer(s) in detail.
I know I'm not English but I would have pick out both the first and third.
(1) No one means that of all, no one can...
(3) Not one means that even not one of them can...
Moreover, either the second or fourth sound worse. I wonder wether they aren't incorrect in that case.

'Of all my friends, none is so smart as Emily' feels the most natural to me, as well as 'not one', which is the emphatic form of 'none'. To use 'no one' in the context of 'of all my friends' feels strange, although 'No one I know is as smart as Emily' feels just fine. Hope this helps.
