    qwerty tummy & 6 letters

Computer keyboards can harbour more harmful bacteria than a lavatory seat, it has been claimed.

Many users are at risk of becoming ill with stomach bugs, according to the consumer group Which?

It warned that 'qwerty tummy', named after the first six letters on a keyboard, could sweep through workplaces after tests on equipment in its own London offices showed alarming results.
    Hi

Q1: What does " querty tummy" mean? Does it refer to keyboard? Is that same the standard keyboard we use nowsadays?

Q2: What does " the first six letters" refer to?

    Thanks in advance!

Tummy is another word for stomach. qwerty are the first 6 letters on a keyboard, but note that there are different keyboards for different languages. For example, the first letters on my (German) keyboard quertz. qwerty is the most common English keyboard layout, they are the first six letters on an English keyboard.
The article deals with bacteria on computer keyboards which can cause illness. So qwerty tummy is just a name for an illness that possibly can be caused by bacteria on a computer keyboard.

Q2: What does " the first six letters" refer to?

To the keyboard. See my explanation above.

Just as an aside, a few years ago a study was done comparing the germs and bacteria found in certain parts of a typical office. While most folks seem to take extraordinary measures in the bathroom, fearing germs from the toilet seat, it turned out that the lavatories were about the cleanest parts of most offices (because they were cleaned on a regular basis). Telephone receivers and computer keyboards, on the other hand, were loaded with bacteria.

Perhaps office workers should consider moving their desks to the nearest rest room!

Or at least their keyboards (for one morning) to get them cleaned.

Sorry, banderas, I'm just not that q-w-e-r-t-y to use the Dvorak keyboard. I have enough trouble typing one letter at a time with the standard keyboard!
