    Remote Control

    Hi,

I've read that a TV remote control can be reffered to as "remote" or "controller" and that there are also other names for it. Could you give me some popular (English) names for this device?
(in Poland we call it a pilot )

    Best regards
    Leszek

    Re: Remote Control

The TV remote control is a funny thing in AmE...it seems like every household has its own nickname for the gadget. However, "remote" is very common usage and is easily understood. At my parents' house, it is called the "handy-dandy," and my best friend calls it the "clicker." Like I said, you're always safe in simply referring to it as the "remote" - everyone will know what you mean.

    "wherethehellareya" is quite funny.
    I also heard:
    Doofer
    Zapper
    Box

    Re: Remote Control

    Hi,

Ouisch - thank you "clicker" sounds good. I have been looking for short names because I can't imagine a man speaking to his wife "honey, do you know where the TV remote control is?"
    banderas - thanks
"wherethehellareya" is probably often used if somebody wants to switch to football from the soap opera his wife is currently watching to and he can't

    Best regards
