    Hit the ceiling

What does it mean, to hit the ceiling? Does it mean to get very upset or furious about something?

"He was pretty nice about it. I mean he didn't hit the ceiling or
    anything.

    Re: Hit the ceiling

Yes, you got it right! when someone is angry enough to the "hit the ceiling" they are so angry they cannot sit, they immediately stand up, usually pace back and forth and may not be coherent in thought or speech, yet they usually both think and talk rapidly, saying things that may be hurtful and cause repercussions later. I like to think that "hitting the ceiling" is an expression of how high the angry person would be if he/she could stand, jump, run, or even fly any higher.
