    Some questions ( need math skills)

    I) I encoutered these questions in SAT preparation
    1) IF y varies inversely to x and y = 8 when x =3, what is the value of y when x=4?(Answer :6)
    --> I don't understand what the question means, how can 8 and 3 can be inverse?

    2)A corporation triples its annual bonus to 50 of its employees. What percent of the employees' new bonus is the increase? (Answer: 66 2/3 %)
    --> This is the problem, I don't understand what the question means, triples anual bonus to 50???? Then how can it be 66 2/3%

    II) 3)What is the differences between solve and resolve?
    4) What is the differences between charitable trust and charitable foundation?
    5) What does it mean by "cheap palor tricks" - I encountered this word when I watch Batman begin the movie

    And thanks in advance

    Question #1

    'varies inversely' means, as x becomes bigger, y becomes smaller.

    y = k/x is the formula for inverse proportion. To find k, multiply x and y.

    Like this

    3 X 8 = k = 24.

    Now, the formula: y = k/x

    So, when x = 4, then y = 6 because 24 (k) divided by 4 (x) = 6 (y)

    DIRECT VARIATION.
    If Xincreases Y also increses correspondingly.
    INVERSE VARIATION.
    If X INCREASES Y DECREASES.
    Here
    X=3;Y=8
    X=4 ThenY=?
    y=3/4x8=6.
    2 question.
    Let the present be 100.
    It is tripled.The new bonus is 300.
    Increase in bonus=200.percentage of on new bonus=200/300%=66.66%
    PRESENT BONUS=50/3,NEW BONUS=50;INCREASE IN BONUS=50-16.666..=33.33.
    PERCENTAGE OFINCRESE ON NEW BONUS=33.33/50X100=66.66%
    %ofincrease in bonus on his new bonus=200/300%=66.66.
    SOLVE=to find an answer to /find a way out.RESOLVE=T DETERMINE,TO PASS A RESOLUTION.

    50 and 3 have no mathematical relationship. 50 employees have their annual bonuses tripled.

    The previous bonus was x.
    The new bonus is 3x. (increase of 2x)
    So the increase (2x) is what percent of the new bonus (3x)?
    2x divided by 3x is 2/3 or 66 2/3 %.

    An annual bonus is a once-yearly payment to employees in addition to their annual salaries.
