    Cool Gulp Vs Down?

    Hello amigos!

He gulped/downed two pints before the main meal.

Do these verbs mean the same here? Is there any difference between them?

They both mean he drank the two pints, gulp indicating that he drank them very quickly and downing just indicating that he drank them.

Hi Sam, the difference is small: 'gulped' tends to suggest a fast, eager and messy(?) way of drinking, whereas 'downed' more accurately describes drinking something in one go...all at once.
