"I often play football." Can you show the adverb here? What kind of question does it answer?

You are close. To be precise it answers the question: "How often".
Ok, let's try with this one:
"He's gone away for six months, " she said sadly. Show me the adverb, please and again, what question does it answer?

Let's focus on this part: "She said sadly".
    Is "she" the adverb?
    Is "said" the adverb or
    maybe "sadly"?

Yes! Besides those you figured out, adverbs can answer the question "TO WHAT EXTENT?" ( like almost, also, only) and they may also express AFFIRMATION or DENIAL (like yes, no). Last but not least, all QUESTION words are also adverbs (how, why, where, when).
