    I haven't a clue.

    Hi Teacher,
some time ago I found this sentence in New Headway Student's Book and I was very surprised. Is it possible to use verb "have" like that? I mean I always use "I don't have a clue." or "I have no clue."

    Thank you for your answer.

I imagine you have the Br English edition. 'I haven't a clue' is quite normal in the UK - as are the two alternatives you mention.

    Re: I haven't a clue.

I mean I always use "I don't have a clue." or "I have no clue."

I haven't a clue is perfectly OK and is the most usual response when asked a question.

I don't have a clue is perfectly OK in a voluntary statement such as I don't have a clue where he lives.

I have no clue is grammatically OK but sounds un-English.

    I don't have a clue what I'm talking about!

    Re: I haven't a clue.

    Here's another way to say I haven't a clue: "I haven't the foggiest (idea)."
