    so much for....

    Hi,

I came across a sentence: 'So much for press neutrality.'

I understand that the sentence is deriding the press neutrality. But I am not sure how 'so much for' phrase is used. Could you please explain that with a few examples?

    Thanks,

    MG.

    Soup,

Thanks, but I am still not sure how to use 'so much for'. I had seen these definations before posting the question.

    Re: so much for....

It expresses the opposite of what is expected; The press should be neutral but isn't.

Pat: You said you would help me with my homework.
Sam: Sorry, but I am too busy right now.
Pat: So much for friendship. <i.e., you're supposed to be my friend, and yet you are not>
