    A far cry?

    Hello Everyone,

The following paragraph is taken from my interpreting textbook. I would like to know here if it is suitable to use " a far cry" here?

In China, most colleges, middle schools and primary schools have English on their curriculums, with the total number of students reaching 120 million. In the United States, nearly 1,000 colleges and over 200 elementary or high schools offer Chinese courses. The Chinese communities have set up some 600 Chinese language schools. Last November the first Confucius school was set up in the University Of Maryland. Still, Chinese language learning in the United States is a far cry from the needs of bilateral exchanges.

    Regards

    Sky

It seems to me that " a far cry" means " quite different from..."

Can I replace the phase " with " still a long way to go "?

    Re: A far cry?

I am not a professional teacher. To me ' still a long way to go ' sounds better.

    Re: A far cry?

"Still a long way to go" is perfect if the number of schools is continuing to increase and there is still progress to be made.
