    The Bhoys

    Dear Teachers,

    Why Celtic supporters are callled "The Bhoys". Is it Scotish English?

    The H may just be to comment on their accent. It could be a variant for them in spelling because of Gaelic.

    Celtic are the Roman Catholic football team, originally largely supported by the Irish in Glasgow, whereas Rangers was largely supported by Scottish protestants. The rivalry was highly sectarian.

    "Bhoys" is a way of writing the pronunciation of "boys" with an Irish accent.
