    crude oil price

CNBC TV channel on its ticker tape ( or any news item ) mentions the price of crude oil as 125 dollars/BBL. I generally understand that /BBL is per barrel but don't know what exactly BBL is an acronym for. Any idea why BBL for a barrel?
