    had waited/did have to...

    Hello

"She had to wait almost an hour for the bus."

Can I ask: How long had she waited for the bus? Or, is it better to write: How long did she wait for the bus?

    thanks

It should be: 'How long did she have to wait for the bus?'

    Hi,
You can use either, but I think that, "How long did she (have to) wait for the bus? is better, it is less "clunky".

How long had she waited (been waiting) when the bus arrived?

    Hi,
Yes, in my opinion, you can use it, but it implies a following phrase, for example "How long had she waited for the bus, when she decided to give up and take a taxi".
