Question what does "onto" mean here?

    Dear Mr Answer:
Here is one piece of explanation of "onto" that I've seeked in LongMan English Dictionary:

The Explanation :"2 used to say that a room, door, or window faces towards something or allows movement into another place: "

My question is how shoud i comprehend "allows movement into another place" in the above Explanation?
Could you give me some example about it?
Would you tell me what does "allows movement into another place" look like?

    Thanks

The way I see it, "allows movement" means there is a door/gate/breach which enables a person to move into another place by crossing it.
    Oregeezer's example is fine.

But I'm not a teacher, and today I'm a bit clumsy...
