    acadenic title

    Dear all,

Which do you think would be the most grammatically acceptable for an academic title:

    1. A new approach to processing verbal irony
    2. A new approach to the processing of verbal irony
    3. A new approach to verbal irony processing
    4. A new approach to verbal irony comprehension
    5. A new approach to the comprehension of verbal irony?

If more than one, degree of formality?

    Many thanks!

Why not "A new approach to comprehending verbal irony"?
    As second best, I'd choose n 5.

It wouldn't be clear to the non-initiated what you mean by "processing". Putting information about verbal irony into a computer to be examined? I suspect (forgive me if I'm wrong) that this sort of word is chosen not for its meaning but because it sounds highbrow.

    Dear Naomimalan,

First of all, thank you so much for your helpful suggestions. In cognitive linguistics processing is often used for comprehension or understanding. So, it is not 'highbrow' in that context of usage.

    Many thanks again.
