    article for T-shirt

    Hi,

I read the following first sentence in a book. I find it a little odd, as it does not use an article before 'red T-shirt' in the second half. Sentence #2 is my construction. Does #2 sound right?

    1. Five students were not wearing the red field trip T-shirt given to all the students.
What fraction of the students was not wearing [ ]red T-shirt?

    2. Five students were not wearing the red field trip T-shirts given to all the students.
What fraction of the students was not wearing a red T-shirt?

    Thanks,

    MG.

I think you are right, although my proposal for change is not that substantial:
Five students were not wearing the red field trip T-shirts given to all the students.
What fraction of the students was not wearing the red T-shirt?

    not a teacher

What fraction of the students was not wearing the red T-shirt?
    Shouldn't that be 'a red T-shirt'?
It is not specific which student is wearing which T-shirt, is it?

    2. What fraction of the students was not wearing a red T-shirt?
    Note,
Five students were not wearing the red field trip T-shirt given to all the students.
