    Red face Gesture

    Hi,
    I am working in a US-based company,I often see they rise two hand and shake Middle finger and First finger at the same time when they tal about some something.

    My questyion is:Normally,when they play this kind of gesture?Exciting things?interesting things?......

    Interesting observation.
    I think the gestures are used to represent the inverted commas ("........") or quotation marks.

    These are "finger quotes."

    You do this when you use a word and you know it may not be a normal or expect use of the word, or to express irony.

    For example, a new policy will make it harder to get reimbursed for travel expenses. You talk about the new "helpful" policy - and you use the finger quotes when you say "helpful" to show that's not really how you think of it.

    My children do it ALL the time. I try not to do it too often.

    That gesture is a way of saying quote/unquote. The interpretation is left up to the recipient of the statement.

    For example, if I was talking to fellow office workers and describing a female that I *believed* was having a romantic relationship with the boss, I might say to them "Mr. Smith's [finger quote]good friend"[finger unquote]. Those to whom I'm speaking will understand my meaning.
