    multiple choice question (tense)

    Hi,
Please look at this multiple choice question:

We ... out yesterday because it ...
    a. hadn't gone - was raining
    b. didn't go - rained
    c. didn't go - was raining
    d. didn't go - had been raining
-> Which is the better choice, b or c and why?

    Many thanks

I think both b) and c) can be used with slightly different implication.
    b) We didn't go out yesterday because it rained (all day). We hadn't fixed any particular time to go out and were prepared to do it at any time during the day, but we couldn't because of the rain.
    c) We had fixed a particular time to go out but couldn't do it because at that time it was raining.

Same idea here. So... the question was wrongly designed?

If I wanted to keep this sentence, I would remove option c) and add 'all day'..

It would seem so, if you had to choose just one response.
