    "last night I hardly was able to sleep"

    please, is this sentence fine?
    should I say "I hardly could sleep" instead?
    thanks.

    try this: Last night i was hardly able to sleep
    or Last night i could hardly sleep

    To my ear, both are fine, but your first version is probably more used.

    Last night I hardly got any sleep./I hardly got any sleep last night.
