    Cool restoration

    Hi,

Is the word restoration linked to the word restaurant? Can I say that someone who works in a restaurant works in the restoration area?

    Re: restoration

You can say that someone works in the restoration.

    Not a teacher at all.

    Re: restoration

Even though both words derive from the same Old French root word, with current usage, people's reaction would be, 'they are totally different words' - and in modern-day meaning, they are.
    So the answer is no.

You can say that someone works in the restoration.

I thought the sentence is not complete without something behind the word restoration.

    So the answer is no.
So in which area is it, if it's not restoration? Someone who build engines works in technology, right? and some who work in restaurants works in what?

No, because as David points out they are understood to have different meanings.

A builder can be working on restoration [repair] of a building. A restorer may be recreating a picture [carrying out restoration]

Restaurant and Restauranteur are the only two forms of this word in English, and both are specifically to do with an establishment that cooks and sells food to the public. Someone who works in a restaurant is either cooking or catering.

So, can I say: 'I work in the cuisine area' ?
