    make it shorter

"I woke up late this morning. I did that on purpose because Sunday is a boring day and I wanted to make it look shorter."

    Please, does it sound natural?
    Thanks.

    Not really.
And I wanted to make the day feel as short as possible.

I wanted to make it shorter. (One can't actually shorten the day; however, one can decrease the number of hours one is awake!)
More likely: I wanted to make it seem shorter.

    Re: make it shorter

    Hi,
Could I have said "... and I wanted to shorten it (the day)."?
    Thanks.

    Re: make it shorter

You can't shorten the day. You can only shorten how it feels or seems to you. If you sleep till noon, then you can make it feel shorter.

Yes, I know I can't shorten the day.
I am not speaking in a literal way but in a figurative one.
Does the English language allow such expression, please?
    Thanks.

Yes, I know that YOU know that you can change the laws of physics.

I suppose there may be some people who say "I wanted to make the day shorter."

    Re: make it shorter

Ex: I woke up late this morning on purpose to make the day feel shorter, because there is nothing to do on Sunday.

    Re: make it shorter

Right, Soup, but in your example, you said "feel" - not just "make it shorter."

Still, I"m sure there are people who would simply say "make it shorter," referring to the part of the day when they were up and about.

I like to sleep in because I like to sleep. It has nothing to do with what day it is!
