    When

I stumbled across this following sentence When they cut my salary, that's when I'll retire.

Knowing usually that after when there should not be any future, I would rather have written when they cut my salary, that is when I retire
Does this sentence make sense? Why so?

    Thanks in advance.

    Exclamation Re: When

You have to discard one 'when' here.
when they cut my salary, that is when I retire. can be They cut my salary when I retire. still better When they cut my salary I was due to retire.

Both sentences make sense, and to me are equally acceptable. Your sentence is more definite and specific than the original.

    Re: When

    Thanks.

    1) When they cut my salary, I will retire
    2) When they cut my salary, that is when I retire
    3) When they cut my salary, that is when I will retire.

    Is there not a gradual emphazing/accentuation from 1 to 2 to 3?
