    Don't you call a MAC a PC?

    Hi, teachers!

When I went to my English school tonight, I found a new PC on the instructor's desk. So, I said, "Oh, you bought a new PC. It's nice."
But he said, "Actually, it's not a PC. It's a MAC." I was quite surprised to hear that and said, "But I think a MAC is a PC. PC stands for Personal Computer, right?" Then, he was like,"That's true, but many people don't normally call a MAC a PC, especially MAC users. "

Do YOU call a MAC a PC? Or just call it MAC?

    Thank you!

    I am not a teacher

As far as I know IBM was the first company which used "PC" in the name of their products (IBM PC). Probably that's why some people do not use "PC" reffering to a MAC - they reserve "PC" for the original IBM Products and the successors of this family.

Let's wait what the native speakers say

    Best regards,

I believe IBM probably was the first company to refer to the "PC" but it has sinse been extended to other companies that use the same operating system.

A Mac uses a different operating system - Mac users would never, EVER call their Mac a PC.

In fact, there is a funny series of commercials that has two people who personify a Mac, and a PC. PC is a bit dumpy, always wears a suit, and tries to be bit more formal. Mac is a younger, "cooler" guy with longer hair, who is always very, very friendly.
