    changing winds and shifting sands

    Hello Teacher,

    I had looked up this phrasal-like sentence; "changing winds and shifting sands", but couldnt understand the meaning at all. Could you advise me what the meaning is?? My guess is that the change of time or environmental change...Thank you for your help in advance~

    Context would be useful.

    Metaphorically it means the same as "The times they are a-changing". Things are happening that are inconsistent and unstoppable, and undermine the security of a person's/people's known world - their way of life and community.

    This sentence, "changing winds and shifting sands", is used as a title in one chapter of my textbook. The way your interpretation is exactly fit into what it is about.
